Where are the geographic areas in Ontario where there are gaps in public EV charging infrastructure?
-Non-400 series highways
-rural communities, especially in settlements under 25,000 residents
In what kinds of situations are public EV chargers most useful (e.g., type of trip, length of trip, type of charging location)?
-level-3 EV locations should be located at existing gas stations, shopping malls, grocery stores, restaurants, entertainment businesses to enable 10 to 80 charging in ~30 minutes, targeting long distance commuting/traveling
-level-2 EV stations should be located in parking garages, street parking, workplaces, medical centres for 10 to 80 charging in ~3-6 hours for medium term refueling for drivers not in a rush (working, shopping, appointments, etc.)
What are the challenges with increasing public EV charging in Ontario and how could the government help address those challenges?
-grants to overcome high cost for level-3 infrastructure and electrical upgrades
-needed provincial government clout to leverage installations of stations on private property and gas stations to rapidly expand and penetrate network into communities province-wide
