This directly contradicts any effort the government is making to promote sustainability. Removing land from the Greenbelt to build more houses will irrefutably damage the ecosystems in the area and simply expanding the greenbelt in other areas is not an acceptable remediation effort.
Increased urbanization in the area will not only harm the ecosystems that the Greenbelt is meant to protect, but the proposed plan will also contribute to decreased storm water management in the area. As we’ve seen in areas like the Don River, increased urbanization WILL lead to flooding, erosion & sedimentation loss.
As a person under 25, the housing crisis is something that scares me. However, I am not willing to sacrifice areas such as the Greenbelt to soothe my worries.
As the provincial government you have the resources to do better and be better than this. This course of action is simply not an acceptable answer to the on going housing crisis.
