Bill 23 and the proposed housing developments in the Greenbelt seriously undermine good planning principles and totally ignore the urgency of climate change. These will be auto dependent communities and dependent on 'near term servicing by developers with local infrastructure upgrades'. ["The lands have the potential ability to be serviced in the near-term with local infrastructure upgrades to be entirely funded by proponents"] Are the developers paying for schools? medical facilities? and policing as well? .... and are they paying for the restructuring of the servicing systems (potable water & sewage disposal) in 10 years when the groundwater reservoirs dry up as temperatures increase and pipes need to be extended to Lake Ontario. Residential development is a net drain on the municipal tax base and manufacturing and service industries are located in the GTA. That is where additional housing should be located ... close to public transportation and jobs! The Ford legacy will go down in provincial history as the biggest disaster to Southern Ontario environmental integrity and urban planning principles.
