I am shocked at how badly the Ontario government (not sure if I should only blame politicians, or if I should include bureaucrats in my assessment) is judging both the citizens of Ontario and future climate change issues.
It is not likely that the sprawl being proposed will lead to any affordable housing. It will be costing the municipalities money to service the areas, but now without development money. There is no proximate public transportation in the two areas I am familiar with. And eventually, when the climate storming gets GTA, it will similarly be costing municipalities money to fix the newly built, newly flooded developments.
