Infringing on the Greenbelt is a bad idea. Developers will build estate homes with no access to transit, not affordable housing. If we have a housing crisis, the way to address it is to a) require all developments have a mix of affordable and market housing, b) prevent demolition of affordable rental c) restrict short-term rental. New building should be within city/urban limits and the limits should not be expanded.
The Greenbelt is critical to the GTA for its agricultural value, for collecting water that feeds our cities and for being a green corridor/habitat for wildlife. The pandemic demonstrated to most people how critical green spaces are to our mental and physical well-being. Do not destroy them to please a few developers.
The time to act on climate change is now -- destroying the Greenbelt for homes is the opposite of what we should be doing.
