Promises made should be promises kept. The government said they wouldn't remove any lands from the Greenbelt--that, if anything, they would only expand it. The people of Ontario are tired of lying governments. If I'm not mistaken, that was probably how you got elected in the first place. Your word becomes meaningless when every commitment you make is fluid or time limited. A commitment now to add more is meaningless because you've already shown you'll break your promise to the people of Ontario. So today you'll add land but tomorrow you'll just change your mind on that as well. Urban sprawl does nothing for the people of Ontario. It's inefficient, polluting, and costly. Cut the crap and stick to your commitments. Leave the greenbelt alone and find better ways to solve the housing crisis. There are still recommendations from the housing task force that haven't been enacted and many non-developer parties have submitted lengthy recommendations to government that could be put in place. Better rail and transit (that doesn't take forever) is a great start. High speed rail is a great start too. The better we build our transit and make it very fast and efficient, the less we need to worry about where people live and trying to jam them as close to Toronto as we can. Here's another thought for you, which I've personally recommended year after year after year. The reverse commute phenomenon has been happening for nearly a decade now. You need to actually put your mind to tackling commuters and all of the social problems that go with it (including for the commuters themselves). Far from adding more commuters, we need to reduce those numbers significantly. The government should be figuring out ways to expand remote work. The government should be figuring out ways for people in Barrie to work in Barrie, and for people in the City of Toronto to work in the City of Toronto. Broaden work opportunities throughout the province so they're not all concentrated in one place and that too will reduce the need for you to jam everything around the City of Toronto. So to reiterate, stop lying to the people of Ontario and start living up to your word. Leave the Greenbelt alone.
