Repealing the Cap and Trade program is incredibly short-sighted. It is so important to our economy and our environment that we maintain this program. The impact of carbon emissions is a threat to all of Ontario, and in particular, a significant threat to future residents and citizens of Ontario. A few pennies may be 'saved' today, but we will all pay a high cost when it comes to dealing with the impacts of climate change: major storm events, upgrading infrastructure; increasing the need for flood protection, financial costs to houses and homes across Ontario, disruptions to the local economy in dealing with major storm events, and insurance costs, to name just a few.
The Cap and Trade system needs to be maintained. It is an opportunity not just to save money down the line when it comes to dealing with the impacts of climate change, but it is also an opportunity to open up new markets in the Ontario economy. New industries could start to become viable and flourish under Cap and Trade, adding jobs to our economy and employing Ontarians.
