I do not support the Proposed Amendments to the Greenbelt Plan. The City of Hamilton took the time to analyze long-term population growth projections and engage in a meaningfully dialogue with citizens, experts and community organizations on the matter when they decided not to expand the suburban boundary. The Government of Ontario's rejection of Hamilton's growth plan as well as the decision to amend the size and rules of the Greenbelt without adequate analysis/consultant is distressing. The Government's decision to ignore the cost and environmental perils of continued sprawl and the reduction of green spaces (especially environmentally sensitive areas like wetlands) in the erroneous name of 'affordable housing' is shameful. The Government of Ontario needs to withdraw the Proposed Amendments to the Greenbelt Plan immediately.
