Hello,
I am strongly against the current provincial plan to build on the current Greenbelt. As the Ford government itself reported, we have enough land outside of the Greenbelt area already to build housing. Our problem is not land, our problem is our effective use of the Land we have already — land that is currently outside of the Greenbelt protection Zone.
The Greenbelt contains environmentally significant lands and the government has no adequately shown that the “trades” it would be making would lead to a benefit to the environment.
The lands is has suggested be included as substitutes to the Greenbelt are already protected, leading to a net loss in protected area at a time when Ontario needs to ensure we are caring for our green spaces in the face of climate change.
I’m further concerned that the government is looking to increase development sprawl, rather than intensification in places with urban development on them already.
This is a reprehensible amendment, and one that compromises the future of Ontario for a few dollars into the pocket of Conservatives from developers.
Put in no uncertain terms, the amendment is blatant, it is boorish, and it is a disgrace Ontario if it is allowed to pass.
