The Greenbelt is home to 78 at risk species and trees that are nearly 800 years old.
And for what? Ugly Mcmansion homes and condos without a tree in sight. Perfectly manicured, plastic lawns, a new extension off the highway. Perhaps a new Walmart super center, placed over the roots of the trees that purified our air for almost 1000 years.
I agree that housing is an issue. I’m a 24 year old service worker, buying a house is something I can only dream about.
But as Canada grows, we need to build intelligently. Higher buildings with solar panels on every roof, designed AROUND our integral green spaces. Not through them.
If this housing project goes through, Ford’s legacy will be a Joni Mitchell lyric. You paved paradise and put up a parking lot.
