Doug Ford got in promising not to mess with the greenbelt. It was designed to protect watersheds, farmland, and wildlife . Once it is gone we can never get it back. The substitutions proposed are laughable, many of them are already protected. Housing is needed in cities, not in the greenbelt. Servicing housing there will require infrastructure which is expensive. Losing the greenbelt in one area will strengthen pressure to carve it up further. This seems like a misguided proposal which will benefit no-one but developers.
