Climate change is the biggest problem facing the globe today. It is too important to be a political issue. Cap and trade is a good start and should be continued. It is a free market solution and appeals to citizens of various political stripes. Ontario should show leadership on the climate change front not only because it is the right thing to do but also because the citizens of Ontario benefit financially. Despite the misleading politicking about only the rich benefitting from these funds many people in Ontario had access to money to help them improve their windows, insulation etc. which ultimately saved them money. And of course, Ontario businesses benefitted because they could sell the windows etc. According to Dianne Saxe, Ontario's Environmental Commissioner, there is a billion dollars in the cap and trade fund that must be spent on climate change actions. That is not a slush fund as was claimed by the premier. That is money collected from cap and trade. And, I repeat, it is not a slush fund and can't be used by the current government for anything other than actions directed at the climate change crisis.
If the government is confident about its actions why is it over-riding businesses' rights to seek judicial redress?
