There was a promise to not touch the greenbelt when Doug Ford was campaigning. This included a remark that a promise like this would be kept unlike those made by other politicians. It's deeply disappointing that this has both been retracted as well as done without any recognition of the land within existing boundaries that isn't used.
Comprehensive reporting has been missing and it feels like decisions are being made without transparency or consideration for the common good. Affordable housing and more housing absolutely needed, but we haven't seen reform for policies that include short term rentals and higher density housing in existing non-Greenbelt regions.
Environmental protections are a longer term strategy to help our future generations. There are ways to build more without sacrificing the existing Greenbelt. The general population and sustainable development of our country is being undermined.
