This is an affront to democratic practices. The Hamilton boundaries were discussed extensively. The people were asked to vote. They did- spectacularly- against expanding into the green belt. For the provincial government to push through such changes anyways, is a continuation of the flawed thinking that led to the creation of (and now repeal process of) Bill 28. Processes are in place for a reason. When the answer from the people is contrary to the wants of the government, the people shouldn’t be steamrolled.
The no vote was not without its solutions and suggestions. The provincial government needs to work with the people on solutions that do not jeopardize Ontario’s self sustaining ability to feed itself as well as protect our incredible environment.
