Please PLEASE don’t waste our precious farmland in favour of enriching Ford’s cronies. The Greenbelt hosts important areas of food production that are crucial in continuing Ontario’s food security and provides clean air to the residents of the GTA. Parkland and trails are also a major part of the Greenbelt and adding new areas elsewhere does nothing to benefit the residents of York Region and Hamilton. The city of Hamilton has already voted to increase the density of housing and we don’t need more car dependent suburbs that will continue to be a drain on the province’s coffers. We need more control on the housing speculation market, control of AirBNB, more missing-middle housing built and sustainable development and not this. Consider developing the parking lots of major malls, redevelopment of underutilized industrial space, redeveloping dilapidated strip malls, building duplexes, townhouses, multiplexes and low-rise apartment buildings in the suburbs before we destroy our green lung.
