I do not support removing any lands from the greenbelt. The province and municipalities should prioritize lands already within municipal borders for new housing. Sprawl will not solve our housing crisis, but instead put a large financial burden on municipalities through the additional infrastructure needed to service new developments. This will lead to increased property taxes or decreased services in the municipalities. Moreover, building on the greenbelt in a climate crisis is unthinkable. This is a time when we need to protect our natural areas more than ever. The greenbelt protects from flooding and preserves biodiversity. We must find ways to build housing in a sustainable manner. The proposal to remove lands from the greenbelt is something I cannot support in any way.
Sincerely,
A concerned Ontario resident.
