The Greenbelt is critical to keep in its natural state in order to avoid flooding and other climate-related disasters, which we have already seen affecting Canadian lands. This plan is clearly designed to benefit the premier’s developer connections rather than intending to benefit the people the premier is supposed to be serving. A better use of these funds and efforts would be to turn unused, already built office spaces in the cities into low income housing. This would provide the much-needed housing for those working minimum wage jobs and reduce homelessness, and also continue to uphold our environmental protections. I am a young professional and it is horrible to see the environment I have grown up with being slowly stripped away because of corporate greed.
