In a time where we as a country and province should be promoting conservation and climate action, building on protected areas not only undermines what conservation and protected areas are but also the actions of the government. If the government won’t stand behind its actions and efforts unless it suites them in politically how and why should communities support them? Proposals for expanding housing in Ontario should look at what areas that are already built upon can be restored, expanded or rebuilt to accommodate additional housing. Please promote conservation of these important areas and enforce their protection. It is time to take the environment into account first and build plans for sustainability not further destruction.
