I believe, as Canadians, we should be striving to build housing in ways that preserve our natural greenspaces, and allow all Canadians easy access to wilderness and an escape from the city and development in general. This proposal seeks to further sprawl the suburbs of Toronto out into the rest of Ontario. This proposal would also be ineffective at providing affordable housing to Canadians, as building these new neighborhoods would no doubt result in more expensive and maintenance heavy single family housing.
The true solution lies in relaxing zoning laws to allow for more missing middle housing, investing in existing communities to build walkable and ecologically sound communities. this could provide more affordable housing and bring people closer to the amenities they are desperate for and reduce strain on our roads and highways, while allowing Canadians more money for what's truly important through less gas spending and car maintenance.
