Doug Ford, you made a promise. You said, "I want to be clear: we will not in any way entertain any proposals that will move lands in the Greenbelt, or open the Greenbelt lands to any kind of development". These were your words, your promise to the people of Ontario. You need to keep that promise. Environmentalists have issued stern warnings that even pieces of land on fringe areas are key for ensuring a supply of food grown in Ontario, keeping wildlife habitats intact and connected as well as flood mitigation. Even your own government has previously argued IN COURT that these lands have significant environmental value. Concerningly, it has also been shown that developers who own land in the areas you intend to open up (again, against the promises that you made to Ontario) have significant ties to you and have donated more than half a million dollars to the Conservative Party of Ontario since 2014. This is a CLEAR conflict of interest. You must not proceed with this plan. You must hire environmental experts AND experts in affordable multi housing and come up with a new plan that both protects the greenbelt and finds innovation housing solutions. DO NOT BREAK YOUR PROMISE.
