I am opposed to the proposed legislative changes that reduce the ability of municipalities to provide the services that residents and visitors all depend upon. Specifically, I am totally opposed to:
- the mandatory prescribed reduction of development charge rates; and
- mandating that certain affordable housing and non profit housing are automatically exempt from all development charges, community benefits charges and parkland dedication requirements.
Developers must contribute to the considerable costs to municipalities of servicing new development. It is totally unfair and regressive for the province to undermine the ability of municipalities to provide and maintain the new roads, sewer and water lines, libraries etc. and other infrastructure and services that residents depend upon and value. these infrastructures and services are an important part of the social values that our society depends upon.
