The proposed updates to the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System are detrimental to our Province. These updates not only put many species at greater risk of harm, but they would also result in destroying many wetlands which are vital to our society. Wetlands help prevent flooding, purify water, recharge aquifers, support endangered species, and trap and store carbon. We cannot simply replace the lost wetland area with other, man-made wetlands as they just will not function the same, nor will they likely ever reach the same biodiversity levels of natural wetlands. In passing these updates, Doug Ford is going back on his promises made during his campaign in 2018. The Ontario Government is actively trying to destroy our land in the name of profit and that is not acceptable.
