I have many concerns, including:
What study is there with the NET benefit of such a proposal, including:
- Impacts of machinery to cut down trees and the need to build logging roads.
- The impact of the stumps and branches and bark which would still be left to decompose faster.
- The net reduction in tree sizes (since forests would be younger) and therefore the reduction carbon absorption. - What has been the experience elsewhere.
- What expert input has been requested, what biases might these people and organzations have.
- What other environmental impacts would there be on cutting down these trees (such as erosion, harm to wildlife, impacts on endangered species). - What commitment is there that the negative impacts will be fully and fairly assessed.
- How transparent will this assessment be.
