It seems reasonable that developers know before they put a lot of money into a project whether a heritage building may stop it. However making it tougher to identify, designate and respect the heritage status is an extremely wrong-headed way to move forward. Our older buildings provide a sense of connection with community and architectural interest is a key component for beautiful spaces. We need to do more, not less, to protect what pitifully little architectural heritage we have in this country.
