The rezoning of greenbelt lands is shortsighted and excessive. Existing lands have already been identified as suitable to achieve the proposed housing growth. Further, in converting greenbelt lands we would be significantly impacting our ability to deal with our existing waterways and floodplains. Simply designating another place does nothing to preserve the environment of the lands originally identified as sensitive when redesignated. Either these lands are not ecologically sensitive and the earlier studies and effort performed by the Ontario government has been in bad faith and intentionally deceptive, or the current actions are. If its identified further housing is needed, densification should be the targeted approach, not sacrificing our environmentally sensitive lands.
