I appreciate the effort to come to Toronto to explain this iniative, and also that there will be a WebEx in January, but as shown by the very few people that attended the Toronto session on December 14, I don't think the MNRF has been successful in informing enough groups about this effort. While I understand the MNRF is always in contact with the forestry industry, this effort will be of interest to many others, such as groups that are concerned with nature, hiking, the environment, canoeing, and rivers -- such as the Ontario Rivers Alliance.
Also, as I mentioned at the Toronto presentation, I am very concerned about industry getting too much control over this initiative, so protections should be in place to ensure that the public is both informed and has the opportunity to comment as this develops.
I do appreciate that the right steps are being taken so far, but as I've seen for hydro-electric power generation, this can quickly become driven too much by industry and politics, with no meaningful consultation or information sharing with the public.
