Bill 23 greatly reduces the powers of Conservation Authorities to protect wetlands, which protect residents from flooding. It also contributes to urban sprawl into the greenbelt that needs to be protected, not developed.
Bill 23 is not needed in its current form. It's intention is to get the developers off of Ford's back. Ford needs to stiffen his back and tell developers that he cannot support their plans to develop housing on lands that need to be safeguarded by the government. Precious farmland needs to be protected from housing developers. We need to eat local but how can that be done when valuable farmland is being paved over for cars, driveways and garden "hardscapes."
The government needs to go back to the drawing board and come up with a plan to create affordable housing in areas that are already zoned for housing.
