I am deeply concerned about the longterm impacts this proposal has on both the environment and how political agendas are achieved.
The GreenBelt was created to prevent loss of farmland, restrict urban sprawl and develop communities in accordance with the Growth Plan.
A couple comments regarding this proposal:
1. Do not limit conservation authorities involvement in development processes. They are there to provide insight and guide development in a sustainable manor.
2. Land development should be restricted to lands that are not legislated as protected.
3. Consideration should be made for brownfield redevelopment in the GTA, as opposed to passing a Bill to promote building on protected land.
4. Revising zoning by-laws to allow higher density developments to proceed in urban areas where infrastructure already exists (I.e., revising Residential Detached zones).
Premium agricultural land should be conserved, not destroyed for the purpose of sloppy, rushed land development.
