Any changes to the Greenbelt plan would be a very serious and threatening mistake. With the shift in attention to sustainable development, the choices we make today must protect the rights of future generations. We are already using the resources of 1.5 earths on a daily basis and this development can not be taken back. You can be sure that future generations will not thank us for this decision, and neither with the socio-ecological system. The Greenbelt is a critical carbon sink and habitat that is instrumental to the ecological health of the region as well as the mental health of the residents. The Greenbelt is already an important component of the economy, and continuing to protect the lands will enable this to continue. Development will be a one time economic stimulus that will have a destructive impact on the farming and wildlife that currently thrive in the area. We have extensive land in Canada, we do not need to develop this one, sacred area.
-In 2016, the Greenbelt generated 9.6 billion in economic activity through farming, recreation, tourism sectors, resulting directly from its protected status; and
-Supported 177,700 local-full time equivalent jobs, supporting rural economic activity and community vitality.
-The province as well as local municipalities benefit from the tax revenues that flow from the economic activities in the Greenbelt, supported by the Greenbelt protected status.
