Doug Ford said that he wouldn't touch the protected lands of the Green Belt, and now he is opening it up for development. 90% of Ontarians do not want this.

They say that we need to build 1.5 million homes in the next 10 years. There are already 86,000 acres of vacant land within the city limits of Toronto and Hamilton alone. We could build 1.5 million homes by just allowing medium-rise buildings along the main transit corridors in Toronto. The reason why developers want to build on the Green Belt is because they can buy the land cheaper and just get Doug Ford to change the zoning laws.

Bill 23 which freezes fees for infrastructure while developing could leave municipalities short billions of dollars and have taxpayers footing the bill. There is nothing in the bill that would guarantee improved housing affordability.

Bill 23 and opening up the Green Belt is an act that serves a very small group of people. The Ford Government and his rich developer friends who are some of his biggest campaign donors.

At just 6.1% of Ontario's farmland, the Green Belt accounts for 53% of Ontarians' fruit acreage and 11% of Ontarians' vegetable acreage.

If the Ford Government opens up the 7,400 acres of the Green Belt so that rich developers can become even richer, that sets the precedent for this to happen more and more in the future.

We live in nature. The more we pave over it so that millionaires can become billionaires, the more we all suffer. We are destroying the very thing we need to survive. Enough is enough.
