Bill 4 is a retrograde and harmful proposal. Humanity is facing a CLIMATE CRISIS and new evidence of that surfaces every day. Storms, flooding, wildfires, rising sea levels, droughts -- all are on the increase. An overwhelming number of scientists are in agreement that this crisis is caused by human activity. We must take action to reverse the accumulation of greenhouse gases in Earth's atmosphere.

Bill 4 does exactly the opposite of what is required. Ontario should be making a climate-change plan that severely reduces emissions. That can be done by instituting (or retaining) energy-saving programs, ceasing to subsidize fossil-fuel companies, and diverting money and effort towards clean energy. Ontario should use 100% clean energy by 2040. Ontario should take steps to EXCEED Canada's commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement. Legally binding emissions targets are essential, backed up by carbon pricing and polluter-pay penalities.

Bill 4 should be withdrawn, cap-and-trade should be retained, energy-saving programs and incentives should be increased, not cancelled. The Ford government should stop wasting tax-payers' money on the lawsuits and compensations that will inevitably result if Bill 4 were enacted.
