The greenbelt is important and needs to continue being protected from development. It’s vital for ensuring CLEAN water supply and prevent flooding. Urban sprawl or suburban communities end up costing more for basic infrastructure (water, roads, libraries, fire services, transportation etc) compared to more density. Research finds suburban developments costs municipalities $3462 per household compared to $1416 per household. We need to design more efficient and livable communities. This is cost effective and protects our water supply which will become more fragile with the upcoming years. We should not build homes in the greenbelt.
