Hello,
I am writing you in concern over the proposed changes to the Conservation Authorities Act in relation to the More Homes Built Faster Act.
As someone educated in conservation and biology, I call on you to recognize the importance of wetland ecology for species diversity, its ability to act as a buffer zone to prevent flooding and drought, and their utility as carbon sinks, to protect our most valuable and slowly regenerating biome.
And as someone who volunteered when Northwood in Thunder Bay experienced mass flooding, I witnessed people who lost everything over something that could have been prevented had the development occurred in a suitable location.
I fear this hastiness will only lead to more damage and heartbreak in the long-term, and ask you to please not loosen environmental regulations more for such short-sighted gains. You speak of these changes providing a solid foundation to address the housing crisis without seeing the irony of it all.
Please continue to uphold the Conservation Authorities Act and recognize the importance of our wetlands, and respect and honour the agreements made in First Nations Treaty Rights.
Thank you.
