To whom it may concern,
The proposal to amend and remove areas of the greenbelt as outlined by the proposal is counter productive and harmful to future generations of Ontarians. The vision of the Greenbelt is to protect the natural environment and the vital groundwater recharge areas (ie. the Oak Ridges Moraine) from the threat of urban sprawl (Greenbelt plan, 2017). As such, the proposal to add the Paris Galt Moraine into the Greenbelt is logical and proactive move. However, is the Greenbelt really protected if the government can chip away at its boarders, piece by piece. Ontario has land. There are dozens of small communities in rural Ontario that seek to grow which the province could consider. This would fulfill the need for housing and strengthen local economies if supported. While there is always room for compromise and negotiation with the proposed plan, it is priority that critically important regions should be reconsidered. In sum, any moraine or natural area that serves invaluable ecological services should not be touched, and ideally any area of the Greenbelt should not be removed at all.
