The GTA Greenbelt and the Greenbelt in Ottawa are treasured areas for most Ontarians. If governments and public health officials REALLY care about the physical and mental health of Ontarians, they would expand green space areas instead of reducing them.
In Ottawa 40 acres of the Central Experimental Farm and 10 acres occupied by the adjoining park (Queen Juliana Park) were given to the Ottawa Hospital to build the new Civic Hospital campus. 700+ trees which have national historic significance and are of great value to the natural environment (eg clean the air, provide much-needed shade and promote biodiversity) will be cut down. This is shameful and a public inquiry should look into how this was allowed to happen.
