I strongly oppose the proposed changes to the Greenbelt. I do not believe removing lands from the Greenbelt and allowing residential development in these lands is the appropriate way to solve the housing supply and affordability crisis. It will increase sprawl, which is highly discouraged in modern urban planning. It will not make houses affordable. In fact, it will help developers make more money, and the general public lose. The act will reduce development charges collected by municipalities, which they can't use for necessary infrastructure maintenance and improvements. With ongoing climate change, destroying forests, wetlands, and farmlands cannot be the right move. The Ontario government needs to be more creative and conscientious in increasing housing supply and affordability in the GTA without harming the Greenbelt.
