I am concerned about the loss of natural heritage which is not clearly identified but, could be wetlands. Map 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 11 show natural heritage features being removed from the greenbelt. This removal could cause flooding or increased drought. There will also be a loss of prime agricultural farm land soils as well as wildlife corridors or potential parks. Ontario has international commitments to protect biodiversity and to protect land from urban sprawl. In addition, climate change targets will be more difficult to meet with continued sprawl due to buildings and car dependence. As wetlands are being lost it is concerning that they may be contained in the proposals. Changes to the greenbelt undermine the existing protections.
