The loss of prime Greenbelt farmland and environmentally sensitive areas would be tragedy in this time of environmental crisis. The Global situation today should make it clear that relying on globalization for basic goods like food is insecure and places Ontario in a vulnerable position for the future. Furthermore, the Greenbelt homes will just be adding to urban sprawl that further contributes to our environmental crisis. Ontario certainly needs more homes, but not on prime and irreplaceable farmland that is among the best in the world. Finally, it seems that this move will only create a minimal number of homes, which will do little to help the housing crisis in the short or long term. This is a shortsighted decision and I strongly Hope the Ford government will reconsider this move.
