The Premier was clearly lying to the people of Ontario when he said he would never touch the Greenbelt.
It's unbelievable that a handful of developers who recently bought protected land are going to reap windfalls. If this was the stock market, the Premier and these developers would be under investigation for insider trading.
Experts have underlined that there is no need to develop Greenbelt lands. In fact there is plenty of land available for development. And housing needs to be developed near to where people work and where there are already adequate services.
Developing the Greenbelt will only exacerbate urban sprawl and leave a legacy of development that is a net drain on the municipal tax base.
The Greenbelt lands are critical to grow food for urban areas and to protect groundwater.
This reckless plan needs to be stopped.
