I am opposed to combining A Place to Grow: Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe with the Provincial Policy Statement. A Place to Grow lays out protections for agricultural and Natural Heritage lands that are essential if the land is to support all who live here now, and those who are to come.
I am fiercely opposed to any reduction in protections for agricultural and Natural Heritage lands. These are the lands that feed us, supply us with clean water, and provide efficient absorption of greenhouse gases. Destroying them and building over them chokes off the land's ability to sustain us.
I urge the government to increase protections for these lands and to increase the area of southern Ontario lands that are protected. For our own sake and for the sake of our children and grandchildren. Many experts have said that there is already land enough designated for building the homes we need. And densification leads to more climate-resilient communities. All these things are well-known. Why is this current government aiming toward such a destructive course?
