I am deeply concerned that the Ontario government is cancelling the cap and trade program, and dismantling many other initiatives which help to reduce emissions. This include government funding for the purchase of green energy equipment, electric cars and home improvements designed to reduce our consumption of fossil fuels.
Ontario has been on the right track for years now, and reversing these initiatives is a backwards step which is short-sighted and ill-advised considering the damages already caused in this province by extreme weather exacerbated by climate change. Additionally, we must concentrate on green energy to reduce the cost to Ontario's health care system caused by pollution.
There should be a price on carbon in Ontario, which makes the polluters pay for their choice to consume fossil fuels. Our goal should be to reduce emissions and pollution for the health of all Ontario citizens.
Ontario should stop paying subsidies and handouts to fossil fuel industries and redirect those funds to clean energy solutions. We should aim to be 100% clean energy in the next twenty years.
