Remove the statutory role of the Director of Mine Rehabilitation and vest its former decision-making authorities in the Minister.
This provision appears to give the Minister the power to make complex rehabilitation decisions while removing the expert who could advise him or her. This would almost seem to guarantee more inappropriate, less durable decisions and the occasional catastrophic blooper. This could be both extremely embarrassing and costly to the government in power and to the people of Ontario.
