I am wholeheartedly opposed to the cancellation of cap and trade. The consensus of opinion among climate experts, economists etc. is that in order to decarbonize, the best first step is to price carbon. We do not have time to back peddle on this. The time for bold action on climate change is now. Here is my vision for Ontario, and its not "Buck a Beer":
• I want a real climate change plan to reduce emissions, help people save energy and create jobs in the $26 trillion clean
economy. In other words, keep cap and trade
• I want Ontario to put a price on pollution, making polluters pay for their emissions and returning the revenues to the pockets
of Ontarians so they can lower their carbon footprint.
• I want legally binding emissions targets in line with our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement.
• I want Ontario to be 100% powered by clean energy by 2050
• I want Ontario to end subsidies and handouts for fossil fuel companies and redirect this money to clean energy solutions.
This is no time for political grandstanding. Climate change is the moral and ethical issue of our time.
