I am opposed to this proposal to allow issuance for new dog train and trial areas and transfer of licenses.
It is inhumane and unethical to continue this practice.
Even with the rules and regulations to provide animals with adequate food, water, and shelter (O. Reg. 668/98, s. 35 (1)), animals will still face undue stress:
- initial trapping/capture/transport to the area,
- chased/hunted by dogs,
- inability to escape the fenced enclosure (O. Reg. 668/98, s. 35 (2),
- any treated/rehabilitated animals will be re-released back into the enclosure to eventually be hunted again and/or injured/killed (O. Reg. 668/98, s. 35 (5))
Veterinarians are already facing high volumes of work, so by permitting new train and trial areas would result in more work: assessing the animals, treating injuries/rehabilitation, administering euthanasia.
