I do not support the proposed application for the re-opening and expansion of waste disposal and storage in Dresden, ON.
Not only will the resulting increase in traffic from the expansion of this facility destroy the roads in the Dresden area, but the resulting increase to costs for the maintenance and repair of these roads, will of course fall to the Municipality of Chatham-Kent's taxpayers, creating additional costs for them. Having this facility open 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, creates nuisance and hazard to an area with two schools along the same road leading to the facility, along with an abundance of farm machinery travelling through most of the year.
This proposal removes highly productive agricultural land from production, at a time when Ontarians are demanding cheap, healthy, and locally produced food. The site is located along Molly's Creek, a tributary feeding directly in (less than 1km) to the environmentally sensitive Sydenham River, habitat to several endangered species not found elsewhere. When (not if) dust and waste moves from the site to the farmland or waterways surrounding, it will create adverse conditions for the agricultural capacity, wildlife habitat, and health and quality of the creek and river.
In a world trying to reduce carbon emissions, York1's solution is to employ a fleet of trucks to move supposedly non-hazardous and construction waste 300km to the outskirts of a small town where the good people of the GTA don't have to see, hear, or think about their waste. The C emissions from these trucks are completely unnecessary and detrimental to the people of Ontario.
The GTA should be dealing with their own waste in their own location, as opposed to moving it out to rural Ontario to deal with!
