Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 Approval #A020401 this site that York1 is proposing to expand and operate again was only used for the storage, transfer and processing of non-hazardous solid waste from industrial, commercial and institutional and municipal sectors on 0.8 hectors, max. 75 tonnes per day and max 75 tones to be stored and hours of operation were 7am-7pm Monday-Saturday (mostly wood was stored here NO actual waste was stored). Under the Environmental Protection Act 1971 approval #A021304 only 5% was commercial and 95% was incinerator ash. Currently this site is not even registered on the landfill sites map of Ontario. It has not been operational for decades. This site needs to be assessed as if it were a “new” landfill because the criteria for a new landfill would not permit this site to be operational or used. It is less then 1km from a residential area. Mollys creek surrounds this area and this creek feeds into the Sydenham River which has many species that are endangered. The surrounding area also has several residents who are on wells. Chatham Kent has already many residents that have issues with their wells believed to be contributed from the wind turbines in the area. Now add a landfill near existing water sources that feed into surrounding wells, the potential for further devastation is a high possibility. The health of all is at risk. Dresden Ontario is prone to flooding, this site surrounds the floodplain areas of the town of Dresden. The potential for flooding is always high especially during the spring so the potential for contaminated water from the landfill is also high. Which in turn would contaminate peoples wells and Mollys Creek and the Sydenham River. This is not a location for a landfill, too many environmental, health and infrastructure concerns. Dresden is no where near any major highway. All roads around us are rural roads. The destruction of our roads will be detrimental with the increased traffic from the dump trucks.
