I have lived in Dresden for…

I have lived in Dresden for 57 years. Many of those years have involved countless hours with the IODE, Rotary, Dresden Community Development Committee, Dresden Archives and the Horticultural Society. As I work on the 100+ years of the Horticultural Society’s accomplishments in making Dresden a better place for all , I am truly amazed at the accomplishments of a small dedicated group. Our strength is that a small group can count on many others when there is something that needs to be done. A trail that has been considered as part of the Trans Canada Trail has been developed in an area that was once abandoned and an eyesore. The roots of this community run very deep. When a virtual history group was set up on line it now has as many followers as live in the town and the majority no longer live in Dresden.

When Dresden was officially named Christmastown and the Night Market one of the top events in Ontario we are a proud community. Unfortunately it looks as if we will be going forward as the place that hosts a landfill on its doorstep.

I haven’t even begun to look into the environmental implications. Certain weather events can always stymie the efforts of environmental control and these events seem to be coming more frequently. Can we afford the risk of our water system being contaminated? Mitchell’s Bay is a favourite fishing venue of many. Would this decimate the fishing stock and the ways of life of the First Nations on Walpole Island?.

This is prime agricultural land. Can we afford to have more land taken our of production?

Please consider carefully. We are not 401 and the traffic predicted is unfathomable.
