The proposal to scrap the Cap and trade system is unacceptable. This week's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report was designed to define the impacts of global warming reaching 1.5 degrees Celsius. It also highlighted the increased impact of a further warming to 2C above pre-industrial levels. The most telling comment of the report is found on page 24: The ambitions stated by worldwide governments in the Paris accord of 2015 are no longer enough to limit global warming to 1.5C.
We have 12 years to get something done, says the IPPC !
In this environment, scrapping the cap and trade approach limiting carbon emissions is reckless and extremely short-sighted. especially in light of the lack of alternative proposals by the Ontario government. It delivers a short-term tax cut while dumping the consequences on our children and our grandchildren.
Keep the cap and trade system!
