This notice is for informational purposes only. There is no requirement to consult on this initiative on the Environmental Registry of Ontario. Learn more about the types of notices on the registry.
Why consultation isn't required
Recovery strategies prepared under the Endangered Species Act, 2007, are advice to government and public consultation is not required. However, we are committed to transparency, and seeking public input to ensure the best scientific information available, including information from traditional ecological knowledge, is considered in finalizing recovery strategies for the species listed below.
Bulletin details
We invite the public and Indigenous communities to provide input on the draft recovery strategies for the following species:
- Blanding’s Turtle
- Eastern Whip-poor-will
- Northern Bobwhite
- Spiny Softshell
- Spotted Turtle
- White Wood Aster
- Three bat species: Little Brown Myotis, Northern Myotis, Tri-colored Bat
Please email us to provide information on these species by August 20, 2019. This may include information related to the biology and distribution of a species, its habitat, threats, and/or approaches for protection and recovery.
The recovery strategy authors will consider input received and all other available information in developing the final recovery strategies.
We will publish the final recovery strategies on Ontario’s species at risk website and on the Environmental Registry of Ontario. We will consider recovery strategy advice and other information in preparing government response statements for these species.
We will provide opportunities to comment on the potential impacts of implementing protection or recovery approaches, as well as areas for consideration in habitat protection, when we develop the government response statements and habitat regulations.
