Why consultation isn't required
Public consultation is not required when a proposal, if implemented, would form part or give effect to a budget or economic statement presented to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
The construction of the memorial is also not expected to have negative long-term effects on the natural, social, cultural and economic environment on the grounds of Queen’s Park and the surrounding area.
The Queen’s Park site is:
- public land
- suitable for ceremonies
- well situated for visitors
There are no significant natural features at this location. Existing trees on the grounds will not be damaged. Public use of the grounds of the Legislature will not be impacted, views of the Legislature from the south lawn will not be obstructed, and public access and subsurface utilities will not be affected.
